TEENS AT WHISK-TASTE OF AMERICA-NORTHWEST -DAILY
Classes are designed for students 13 to 18 years old.
In this week long hands-on cooking series/daily class, we will discuss, cook and taste favorite foods from around America. We’ll learn why Cheesesteak is traditional in Philly (but not in the Northern Pacific) and what makes Southern Fried Chicken unique in the South. We’ll talk about different types of pizzas and what makes Chicago pan-pizza special. We’ll also learn the history of Texas BBQ and the different sauces served with it.
Taught by Chef Barbara Sowatsky, this will be an engaging, hands-on class to showcase favorite regional and historical foods while learning a bit about American history. Throughout the week/day we will explore the different ingredients and why they are favored in a region. We’ll learn flavor profiles that make each American region distinct while creating several favorite recipes from each region. Every day you will practice knife skills and become more familiar with everyday kitchen equipment. Come ready to learn “What’s Cookin’ in America!”
